Changes To Medicare Rebates
From 1 July 2016, Medicare benefit cheques are stopping. This means patients will need to register their bank account details with Medicare so their benefit can be paid directly into their bank account via EFT. This change was announced in the 2015-16 Federal Budget and Medicare says that this will ensure all claimants have access to their Medicare payments faster.
Claimants can register their bank account details:
- online—by using their Medicare online account via myGov, or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app
- by completing a Bank account details Collection form available at humanservices.gov.au and using the drop box at a service centre or mailing it, or
- by calling 132 011.
ResMed ASV Pump Recall
ResMed have informed us of a serious safety concern regarding their ASV pumps due to an (unpublished) finding that could increase the risk of cardiovascular death with Adaptive Servo-Ventilation (ASV) therapy for cardiac patients with central sleep apnoea.
Only patients using ASV, with significant chronic heart failure and with reduced ejection fraction are at risk. You may or may not know if this applies to you. ResMed are recommending that patients who fall under these parameters, see their treating physician for review.
If you use one of the following Resmed ASV machines, you will need to contact us at your earliest convenience:
AUTOSET CS AUTOSET CS2 – ASIA PACIFIC
VPAP ADAPT SV – ANZ S9 VPAP ADAPT – APAC
VPAP ADAPT – APAC AirCurve 10 CS PaceWave ANZ TRI VPAP Tx S9 VPAP Tx – APAC
ResMed inform us that there has been no malfunction or technical fault with the operation of the device, it operates correctly to treat central sleep apnoea. The identified risk is with the use of ASV in this at-risk population. This issue has not yet been resolved and we await, with interest, the published paper on this study.
